Beware the Bear

Presenting - Crystal Rock Raceway (a.k.a. SIR-II)

This is a rendering of Crystal Rock Raceway (CRR), also known as Siberia International Raceway - II  The new name reflects the new location.  The track is a four lane MaxTrax.  Table dimensions are 4'-6" x 12'-10".  The track is designed to be run in both directions.  CRR can also be converted into a oval.   Trakmate provides the lapcounting and race management software.

With a new room the last thing built was the track.  The infrastructure consisting of lights, workbench, pit benches/storage shelves had to be installed first.  With most of the boxes in storage and a workbench to build on, construction of CRR began in mid July.

CRR's first official race is scheduled for November 2001.  It will be part of the NITRO series.  NITRO is an Illinois state wide series for Aurora's T-jet cars.  These venerable vehicles are making a comeback racing under the FRAY rules.  Classes to be run at CRR's first race are FRAY and Pro T-jet.

Construction Photos

Lots of work to do between now and November.

CRR's wide lane spacing accommodates a variety of vehicles!

CRR's frame is composed of three sections.  One of the end sections with legs attached.

More of the frame (right-side up this time) showing leg details and lateral bracing.

Without my Son's help I would never have gotten this far this fast.

Final test fit of the track on CRR's primed table with a pair of Ferrari 250 GTO FRAY Racers.  Approximately two weeks after the first pieces of the frame were joined!

The proud owner with implement of construction.

Wiring and walls to follow.
